Allergy and its symptoms

Different types of allergies have different symptoms and the symptom also varies from person to person. Allergies generally occur when the immune system reacts to foreign substances. Our immune system produces antibodies that fight foreign substances that enter our bodies. When your body is allergic, your antibodies attack the substances you consume or apply, causing an allergic reaction. Here is a list of types of allergies and their symptoms –

The symptom depends upon the type of allergy you are exposed to. Based on the substance consumed, it may attack the airways, sinuses, or nasal passageway, skin, and digestive tract.

  • Allergic Rhinitis or Hay cause causes symptoms like running nose, stuffed nose, sneezing, watery or swollen eyes, itching nose, eyes, and roof of the mouth.
  • Food Allergy causes swelling of the tongue, lips, and throat, tingling in the mouth, anaphylaxis, and hives.
  • Insect stings can also cause allergy-like swelling at the site of the sting bites, itching, hives, and cough. Severe allergies may cause chest tightness, shortness of breath, wheezing, and anaphylaxis.
  • Certain drugs may also cause allergic reactions like rash, hives, facial swelling, wheezing, itchy skin, and anaphylaxis.
  • Atopic dermatitis is an allergic skin condition. It is called eczema and can cause itchiness, redness, peel & flake.

Anaphylaxis –

Anaphylaxis is a rare and extreme reaction to an allergy. It occurs as a reaction to food or insect bite allergies. This is a life-threatening emergency that requires immediate medical attention. Some signs of anaphylaxis are skin rash all over the body, rapid drop in pulses, sudden BP drop, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness, breathing problem, and Lightheadedness. In case of any of these symptoms, consult a doctor immediately.
