Hearing problems at a young age

While majority of the hearing loss cases occur during old age or child are born with no hearing capacity. But there is also a possibility of facing hearing loss among young and adults too. There are many reasons that can cause hearing loss like Otosclerosis, otitis media and much more.

Causes of hearing problems at a young age –

  1. Otosclerosis – Otosclerosis is an abnormal growth of a bone in the middle ear that can lead to hearing loss if left undetected for long time. People with family background of Otosclerosis are more prone to have it than others. The symptoms start occurring during mid- to- adulthood.
  2. Otitis media - Otitis media is a middle ear infection that, if left untreated, can lead to hearing loss. Because of the position of the Eustachian tube during childhood, this illness is also quite common in children.
  3. Noise pollution Hearing loss - human ears have a limited hearing range capacity; if the ears are exposed to loud noises that exceed this range, hearing loss can occur in people of any age.

For a medium Heavy traffic, noisy athletic events, noisy restaurants and bars, heavy traffic, heavy machinery noise, unexpected blasts, regular usage of earphones with loud noise, rock concerts, and so on are examples of loud noise. If you have a family history of hearing loss, you should schedule hearing testing with an audiologist. Other symptoms that require prompt attention include regular exposure to loud noise, recurrent ear infections, and difficulty hearing normal communication amongst people in everyday life.
