Vertigo: Reducing the occurrence and intensity
April 06, 2021
Vertigo affects more than 10% of the population. While it can't be prevented, the recurrence of episodes of giddiness and dizziness can definitely be controlled with some mindfulness and effort!
- If you suddenly feel faint when you get up in the morning, ensure that you get up on you side, sit on the edge of the bed and stabilize your self before you stand up.
- When picking an object from the ground, try to avoid bending your back and neck and bend your knees instead. Slowly come back to standing position ensuring that the head and neck doesn’t experience a jerk.
- Avoid extending your neck and reduce the time you need to spend in postures that require bending.
- Improve your posture while seated and provide for adequate support to the back.
- Slowly, but steadily introduce your body to exercises that trigger your vertigo to enable the brain to get used to the sensation. Be sure to have support to help if needed.
If the dizziness and discomfiture caused by vertigo, does not abate, consult a doctor to identify the triggering and causative factors. It is likely that a combination of dietary modifications and medicines (based on the cause) can alleviate the symptoms of vertigo and provide you immense relief.
You can be free from vertigo. All you need is the will, and the right support to get over it!
