September 05, 2021
It is commonly said that blindness disconnects people from the world, but hearing impairment is even worse as it disconnects people from people.
Hearing is one of the most important functions that develops in human beings. We generally communicate primarily through speech and words, and the inability to understand the words being communicated by someone else can be extremely disheartening.
In fact, people with acquired hearing impairment are 3x more likely to experience depression and other mental health issues, if their hearing isn’t treated. Using a hearing aid helps restore a person’s hearing to some extent and helps them communicate with their loved ones, enabling them to feel more connected to the society around them.
Here are 4 reasons why you or a loved one should most certainly use a hearing aid.
- It considerably improves the quality of life of the wearer and enables them to partake in tasks such as those involving communication with others. For instance, a person who uses a hearing aid may be able to go to the bank and complete transactions without depending on others.
- The risk of dementia, Alzheirmer’s and other neuro-cognitive disorders are considerably reduced when a person’s hearing is restored. The cognitive abilities are constantly stimulated, enabling them to think.
- It helps the wearer be more aware of their surroundings and improves their perception, which in turn makes them feel safer and more confident.
If you have a loved one with hearing loss, encourage them to use a hearing aid.
It is always better later than never.
